Galileo.jpg
Galileo was the greatest scientist of the Renaissance
period. He created the telescope, which allowed people
to see things in the sky they could never before see. He
also proved Copernicus's theory that the earth revolves
around the sun by looking at the sky with a telescope. The
church rejected Galileo's findings and made him recant. He
then could not share his great ideas with the world anymore.

This is an image of the magnetic compass. The magnetic compass
worked because earth has a magnetic pull. The compass was a
major part of exploration because explorers now knew what direction
they were going while they were sailing. For example, Columbus knew
to travel west to cross the Atlantic, and now he knew if his vessels were
sailing in the correct direction and he wouldn't become completely lost.
Explorers could now be much more accurate in judging which direction
they are going in.

Nicolas Copernicus was a polish astronomer who lived in the
15th and 16th centuries. He was the one who started the
Heliocentric universe theory. Copernicus first alerted the world
about his theory in "Commentariolus," published somewhere
between 1510 and1514. He later went over his theory in greater
detail in "De revolutionibus orbium coelestium,"finished in 1530.
